Nestled in the foothills of the Sierra, Madre, Alamos, Sonora
Just 400 miles south of the Arizona border, Alamos has the distinction of being named ’ÄòPueblo Magico’Äô or ’ÄòMagic Village’Äô by Mexico’Äôs Secretary of Tourism. Alamos offers the refreshing tranquility of a small Mexican Village while the pending UNESCO designation as a World Heritage Site provides the international flair of a Cultural World Center.

Alamos was once the most important colonial city in northern Mexico. Silver was discovered by the Spaniards during the 1600s and over the next 250 years, the city became a center of government and culture. Today, the beautifully restored, enchanting Adobe Mansions of Andalusian design dating back to the 18th century inspire a lifestyle that delights the senses.

The Plaza de Armas is the heart of Alamos. It’Äôs where everyone comes to meet, to see and be seen. Parades, festivals and the traditional Sunday evening 'paseo' are all centered here in the shadow of the Parroquia de la Purisima Concepcion, the church.

The Plaza Alameda, sometimes called the market square, is the hub for shopping and commercial activity. There you will find grocery stores, a large indoor market, carnecerias (butcher shops), farmacias (pharmacies), ferreterias, (hardware stores), tortillerias, internet cafes, ice cream parlor, outdoor food vendors of carne asada (grilled steak tacos), mariscos (seafood), hot dogs, elotes (corn on the cob), and much, much more!
